Background and Business Description

AMITA Institute for Sustainable Economies Co, Ltd is a socially responsible research institute in Japan that provides consulting and research services for businesses in agriculture, forestry and fisheries with the aim to reform modern techniques into sustainable systems.  Food safety and food risk, the revitalization of the local market for fish and produce, and the restoration of local nature reserves are the focus of AMITA and are often incorporated into their consulting recommendations.  Through their work with Japanese businesses, AMITA is helping to establish an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly approach to the agriculture and fishery business.

AMITA addresses the issue of Food Safety and Food Risk through their research and understanding of the market for produce, forest products and fisheries output.  In order to ensure that producers are putting safe products onto the market, AMITA designs measures for effective risk communication.  These measures ensure that food producing customers can effectively monitor their outputs and ensure that any safety or quality issues are discovered before products are put on the open market.  Measures that increase risk management are also put in place in order to decrease the likelihood that an unsafe event will occur.  In this way, AMITA advises clients on how to increase profits while also guaranteeing that customers will receive safer products.

AMITA also aims to give local producers a way to help with the revitalization of the local community.  They advocate the creation of local business that have less impact on the environment and are able to provide jobs and products for the local market.  In places with undeveloped agriculture and fisheries industries, AMITA organizes platforms for industrial promotion and human resources development.  These platforms serve to educate local people on the agriculture and fisheries industries and train people to work in the new businesses.  AMITA also provides internship programs, holds business plan competitions, and run the AISE seminar, the Nature-based Industry School and the AISE Terakoya workshop all of which contribute to the education of the potential new workforce and further develop the industry.  Communication platforms assist in the formation of cooperatives which help small farmers achieve economies of scale in areas where large corporate farms are not viable.

Their consulting services offer producers of agriculture, fish and forestry products the opportunity to earn higher profits and grow better quality goods that are better suited for the market while operating in an environmentally sustainable way.  AMITA works with both large and small producers to design and implement sustainable and environmentally friendly systems of agriculture and fishery operations.  These systems result in better quality product and higher profits for their businesses.  More recently, AMITA has developed a program that consults on the establishment of Eco-labeling in the fishery, forestry and agricultural sector.  This program promotes and organizes producers and helps to expand the eco-friendly agricultural and fishery industries in Japan.

For established businesses, AMITA provides thoroughly analyzes marketing channels and consumer demand, and advises producers on branding methods for higher value-added products, production estimates, and ways to mitigate risk in the event of a natural disaster or industry interruption.

AMITA is a private company and does not receive funding from any government or government-affiliated organization.  Consulting fees fund 100% of the research and programs that help to change the dynamics of the agriculture and fishery industry in Japan.
