Azad identifies and registers young eligible women (from poor households) who dream of economic independence. In partnership with several civil societies, Azad establishes a regular presence in the slums and resettlement colonies. Azad has been able to recruit a large group of enthusiastic young women through its mobilization and outreach programme.
The recruits are then taken through preparation that includes self- defense, communications, grooming, map reading, first aid, women’s rights, English speaking etc. by collaborating with other organizations. The preparation period ranges from 8 to 10 months, over which time the women are also assisted to acquire driving license. Women drivers are also supported to open their bank accounts and are covered under an accident insurance as soon as they begin to drive on the roads.
Azad then works in strategic collaboration with Sakha Consulting Wings Pvt. Limited, a social enterprise set up with an objective of providing safe and alternate transport options to women in urban India, to provide employment solutions to the qualified women drivers.
