Banco de Caloritas is modernized version of the sari-sari store. It is a wellness store in the workplace that interacts with its customers on their nutritional needs. A wellness store in the workplace aims to promote healthy behavior by pushing the availability and accessibility of the following: a variety of low-fat, high fiber foods; provision of physically activity, the inclusion of fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains in the daily diet; clinical programs and staff training; all in order to lose weight and/or avoid further weight gain. At the same time, providing sustainable jobs to Nutritionist/Dietitians and partner communities who provide fresh organic produce and nurturing the malnourished students of partner communities to achieve better lives.
Banco de Caloritas' program has three components:
1. Nutrition Program -- This entails a process of: Assessment; Diagnosis and Goal Setting; Intervention through Nutrition Education; and Monitoring and Evaluating Nutrition Education. This comes in the accessible forms of one-on-one consultation sessions, group lectures, email blasts and educational materials like posters, leaflets and newsletters. Nutrition education is provided for free by a dietitian who co-manages the store. The sellers in the canteen and its operators are taught to evaluate their menu and provide calorie counts to the meals they serve. They are given a basic nutrition course to create a force of wellness ambassadors who will promote nutrition, health and wellness to their consumers.
2. Healthy Food Options for Sale -- Dairy products such as milk, yogurt and pro-biotic drinks, whole grain cereals, nuts, fruits and vegetables. Other product offerings are beverages, ice cream and confectionary products.
3. Creating Shared Value -- By adopting a partner community school where a wellness store will be set up from part of the profit gained in the wellness store in the companies. A nutrition program comes with the package, that offers feeding and nutrition education to the undernourished children in the partner community schools and nutrition workshops and livelihood to their parents.
