Morning Star Center (MSC) is a school for the early detection, care and parental counseling for those with Intellectual Disabilities based in Hanoi. MSC is a non-government and non-profit organization.
MSC has skills in Early Detection to Intervention for Intellectually Disabled children that rely on the combination of education and medical treatments. The children who come to the Center will be psychological tested and checked by the electroencephalogram (EEG) to access the skill level of the children. They will then be moved to suitable classes.
Currently, there are 87 employees, including graduates from the College of Pre-School Pedagogic, psychologists, and other graduates who specialized in Special Education.
MSC was founded in December 1995 under the Vietnamese Relief Association for Handicapped Children that is led by Mr. Nguyen Tai Thu. MSC was founded by Dr. Do Thuy Lan – an outstanding doctor, psychiatrist, former Director of the Mental Daycare Hospital Mai Huong, Vice-Director of the Hanoi Relief Association and Member of the Executive Board of the Vietnamese Relief Association for Handicapped children.
After 9 years of operations, the Hanoi city authorities granted a land 866 square meters in Nhan Chinh sub-district, Thanh Xuan district and MSC built a new Center with 4 floors using the funds of the Atlantic Philanthropies (New York, America).
For its efforts, the MSC was given certificates of satisfactory progress by the Ministry of Public Health and other organizations like: Vietnamese Relief Association for Handicapped Children, Vietnamese Fatherland Front, Hanoi People’s Committee, Hanoi Relief Association for Handicapped Children. Many employees of MSC are also given certificates of satisfactory progress for their teaching and caring of Intellectually Disabled children.
