On June 23, the Global Institute for Tomorrow (GIFT), a Hong Kong think tank, and private investor, Annie Chen, co-hosted an investor forum focused on investing in social ventures. A first of its kind in Asia, the forum discussed opportunities in social investing to an oversubscribed crowd of 60 participants, which included family investors, private banks, foundations, and private equity firms.
Yvonne Li, Avantage Ventures Founder, was a speaker at the event. She spoke on the emerging forms of financing available for social investments, and published a piece mapping the categories of social financing. See our typology: http://tiny.cc/y94hp.
The roundtable series is designed to help investors learn and understand investment opportunities in social ventures. The discussion shifted beyond the extremes of philanthropy to shareholder-driven motives.
